First Semester Happenings
Steve Bonchek welcomes the new teachers to Harmony School.
During the long hot days of summer, administrators, renovators, the Early Childhood Program, and a variety of community groups had Harmony School all to themselves.

As summer ended, we welcomed 194 students back to Harmony School. This year, we are blessed with 10 students from foreign countries including South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The International Student Program is one of several new high school initiatives. It is designed to give students extra support with English-as-a-Second-Language and American culture studies, while still involving them completely in the Harmony community.

The annual trek to McCormick’s Creek was a huge success this year. The trip was a great opportunity to get acquainted with new students, to get reacquainted with old friends, and to explore nature.

As always, the middle school students have embarked on the life-changing transition between childhood and adulthood. Beginning with sophomores and freshmen this year, all our high school students are taking seven semesters of mathematics and foreign language before their senior project. High school students are taking a college course or a professional training/internship before graduation, choosing an academic area in which to demonstrate mastery or original thinking.

Welcome, Steven.

Murals at Harmony Downtown

Selections from the murals at Harmony Downtown.

Rhino’s Youth Center is the original occupant of this mall purchased by HEC. Rhino’s has five after-school programs for young people in a safe environment free from alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.

Each week these young people create and produce concerts and a five-hour radio show. Each month they air a half-hour television show and publish the journal The Antagonist.

The fifth program is art murals. Youth use a variety of free supplies to create art with positive life messages
